Project Description:
Funds provided through a contract with Guam Department of Public Health and Social Services, Division of Public Welfare, to provide training and technical assistance activities for child caregivers working in center-based and family-based care facilities in promoting the improvement of the quality of childcare on Guam. Outcome #1: Up to 50 Family home providers, center-based providers and parents will have increased knowledge and skills on developmentally appropriate practices for young children, including young children with or at risk for developmentally delays in home or center-based setting through the participation in two hybrid courses. Outcome #2: Up to 4 Model Child Care Centers will have implemented effective developmentally appropriate inclusive practices for young children birth to age 5 with or at risk for developmental delays and will have served as observatory sites for other childcare center staff to access information on implementing successful inclusive practices. Outcome #3: Up to 30 child care centers will participate in a pilot program focused on the implementation of the Early Childhood Environmental Rating (ECER) system. As part of the pilot program, centers will submit action plans for improving their facility to align with recommendations identified in the ECERS. Outcome #4: Up to 100 child care providers will have increased knowledge and skills for improving the social and emotional outcomes of infants and toddlers. Outcome #5: Up to 125 parents will have increased knowledge and skills on strategies that promote the overall development of their child. Outcome #6: DPHSS, CCDF Program will have increased public awareness, announcements, and informational and training materials for providing information and strategies on how to stimulate the overall development of young children. Outcome #7: DPHSS will have updated proposed licensing rules and regulations for child care providers.
