Project Description:
Building on its experience with PBS training, this project funds a pilot project to train brain injury specialists in PBS practices, demonstrate the efficacy of PBS for brain injury, and develop a sustainability plan for this service in Virginia. The following goals are proposed to be accomplished through this initiative. Goal 1: Increase the capacity of the services system to address challenging behaviors of individuals with brain injury. Goal 2: Improve the quality of life and inclusion in respective communities of individuals with brain injury who exhibit challenging behaviors. Goal 3: Evaluate the effectiveness of PBS practices with individuals with brain injury through a pilot demonstration. Goal 4: Sustain the practice of PBS by ensuring that strategies to maintain and expand capacity are ?built into the system? for supporting people with brain injury. Key activities that will take place to ensure that desired outcomes are accomplished include: identifying practitioners who support individuals with brain injury from across the state interested in gaining knowledge on PBS facilitation and providing training, mentoring, and portfolio preparation support; conducting a pilot initiative by identifying individuals with brain injury and PBS facilitators to complete the PBS process; evaluating the effectiveness of the PBS intervention by conducting goal attainment analysis and quality of life interviews; and determining ways that PBS practices can be sustained to become part of the ongoing system of supports.
