LEND: Maternal and Child Health Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Other Related Disabilities
Project Description:
Purpose/Need:
The purpose of this proposed Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Other Related Disabilities (LEND) program is to improve the health of infants, children, and adolescents who have, or are at risk for, developing neurodevelopmental and other related disabilities, with a special emphasis on autism spectrum disorders within the State of Connecticut.
Overall Goals/Objectives:
1. To advance the knowledge and skills of the full range of child health professionals to improve health care delivery systems for children with developmental disabilities.
2. To provide long-term and short-term training to students.
3. To provide community trainings for state employees both within and across Connecticut State Departments of Health, Developmental Services (birth to three), and Education.
4. To give trainees access to high quality interdisciplinary service models available for children and youth with developmental disabilities, special health care needs and ASD.
5. To disseminate materials that promotes innovative practices, cultural competency, and family-centered approaches throughout the state.
6. To ensure that families and youth included in all training activities emerge with the preparedness to become future leaders and teachers.
