Nebraska Learn the Signs-Act Early Statewide Autism Team

Project Description:
Nebraska Act Early State Autism Team members represent both urban and rural areas of this predominantly rural and frontier state. Agencies represented on the Team include the Nebraska UCEDD and LEND programs, the Department of Education, the Unicameral, Head Start/Early Head Start, the PTI Nebraska, the Autism Action Partnership, the Barkley Memorial Center, and the Autism Society of Nebraska. Team members also represent private pediatric and behavioral health care practitioners from rural Nebraska. Goals and activities identified for this grant proposal include; 1) Development a statewide plan for care coordination by researching models used in other states, identifying possible funding sources, and disseminating this information to stakeholders; 2) Increased public awareness of the Act Early campaign through dissemination of CDC, MCH, and locally developed resource materials at health fairs, conferences, meetings, and through individual contacts with health and education providers across the state; 3) Increased the number of professionals trained to identify, diagnose, and treat children with ASD by serving as the Advisory Board to the MMI ? LEND Autism Leadership Academy training program; and 4) Collaboration with the Autism Action partnership in the identification and development of resources for inclusion in their Autism Resource Hotline.
