Project Description:
The Kennedy KriegerInstitute's community programs are family centered and maximize the potential of each child within their own home and community environments. Through these programs, the Institute adapts services to the unique needs of children with disabilities and their families to help them adjust to the routines of everyday living in their home, school and community settings. Providing direct treatment, and acting as advocates for the children and families served, the interdisciplinary professionals at the Institute help children achieve their potential and to access and benefit from community resources. Programs: *Child and Family Support Program *Family Support Services *Home and Community Rehabilitation *Kennedy Krieger Institute Family Center *PACT: Helping Children with Special Needs *Southeast Baltimore Early Head Start *Specialized Health Needs Interagency Collaboration (SHNIC) *Therapeutic Family Care The Kennedy Krieger Institute's Department of Special Education includes a number of programs that offer service to children with disabilities in a variety of school-based, hospital-based and recreational settings. The Institute's School programs offer special education and related services in a day-school setting to students aged 6-21with a wide range of learning, emotional, physical, neurological and developmental disabilities. Special education services focus on the development of academic, social, emotional and behavioral skills through trans-disciplinary comprehensive instruction in an environment that recognizes and capitalizes on the individual strengths of each child.
