The project has several facets: 1. modeled after the successful Projimo Project in Sinaloa, the Arizona-Sonora Project would create low cost wheelchairs while providing training and employment for individuals to work in this enterprise; 2. the non-profit business would also make prosthetics and common low tech assistive equipment such as standers, bath benches, adaptive tables and 3. working with Howard Weinstein who has developed a manufacturing method for low cost solar powered hearing aids, a business will be developed in conjunction with existing manufacturing plants in Sonora, Mexico. All projects are a collaboration of the UCEDD, other university and Arizona community partners, as well as individuals and social services and disability groups in Mexico.
