Project Description:
Grant from Christopher Reeve Foundation in the amount of $10,000 will be used to print additional copies of the book, Right Under My Nose: A Book for Children with Spina Bifida. The book includes a story about a child named Eddie. Eddie is a preschooler with spina bifida and he decides to take something special with him to show and tell at school. He uses it as an opportunity to tell others about spina bifida and what its like to have it. The book was written for young children to help them better understand their medical condition. In addition, the book offers tips to parents and caregivers to support their efforts in explaining spina bifida to young children, as well as activities for young children. It is the only book of its kind for young children. The book is available in Spanish and English and is on the web at www.myspinabifidabook.org or www.milibrodeespinabifida.org. Books from the first print run were distributed throughout Los Angeles County, the state of California, and to the Spina Bifida Association. Requests for the book came from various countries including Guatemala, Scotland, Australia, and Spain.
