Improving Access to Care for Children/Youth with Epilepsy and Their Families in Rural and Frontier Communities

Fiscal Year:
2009

Project Description:
Families living in rural and frontier communities lack an integrated system of care to deliver services and supports that assure the best quality of life for their children who have epilepsy. They face geographic isolation. Travel outside their communities can be hindered by weather and road conditions, while others are faced with extensive travel, often out of state, to access specialty services. Parents and health care providers have limited opportunities for training and education related to this condition. Project Access is a multi-state collaborative (AK,CA, NV, WY) working to improve access to health care and related services for these children.
