Project Description:
The Healthy Lifestyles for Youth with Disabilities project is a school-based sports and recreation program for youth with disabilities located in the city of Detroit. The program provides school-aged children at the Detroit Day School for the Deaf with opportunities to learn and develop skills in sports and recreation activities such as basketball, double-dutch jump rope, Judo, golf, and bowling. In addition, training is offered in healthy nutrition choices and different analytical exercises designed to bolster job skills and critical thinking. The project also offers programming through the Greater Society for the Blind and plans to branch out in the future to offer wider programming for Detroit's children and adolescent's with disabilities.
