IOTI - Supported Employment Specialist Training

Center:
Fiscal Year:
2008
Contact Information:
Project Description:
Paraprofessionals are taught to serve as job coaches in supported employment using a competency-based approach that teaches both knowledge and application of knowledge in the field. Community service organizations refer employees for the training on topics pertinent to experienced job coaches and the consumers they serve. Technical assistance is available to address individual needs. During this fiscal year the Utah Supported Employment Training Project (USETP) provided direct training to 404 individuals, including service providers, school district personnel, state agencies, and parent groups. Sixty-two individuals participated in the core Supported Employment Specialist Training, and 23 completed the certification requirements. SEST students must pass all competencies administered with a score of 80% or better to certify. Another 342 individuals participated in supported employment specialty trainings and workshops. USETP received a subcontract from the Utah State Office of Rehabilitation to develop a comprehensive webpage for supported employment specialists http://utahsupportedemployment.alpha.rnbstudios.com/. The website is fully interactive and includes online registration for the SEST trainings, online evaluations, modules, and tests. Individuals who enroll in the 24 hour SEST training are given access to the training modules, which also serve as a resource for professionals working in the field and include a variety of useful links and downloads relevant to the roles and responsibilities of an employment specialist.
