Project Description:
This grant is targeted at building capacity to improve services to students with disabilities. The Scope of Work will consist of the following: 1) Five school districts will be identified for and receive ten child-specific consultations regarding Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). 2) Three training modules will be used for training preschool community teams upon request, to serve at least 200 professionals over the current project period. 3) One two-day statewide training from national experts will include families, regional or child specific teams, school district preschool staff, administrators of agencies and preschools, and others interested in further developing their knowledge and competencies. 4) Provide state agencies, policy makers, families, service providers, teachers and communities with information to guide decision making and improve the lives of young children with ASD; an action plan will be developed by the Autism Managed Care Services Grant, with input from SDE. 5) Additional sources of funding for the support of preschool students with ASD will be obtained. 6) Outcome measures from funded projects will look at generalization of skills by the children to varied environments, and generalization of teaching strategies by the families. 7) Consult with the Albuquerque Public Preschool Program as they develop and implement a model classroom during school year 2003/04, including observations in classrooms, at least three consultations with staff, pre/post testing of selected children and at least one in-service training based upon identified needs of classroom staff.
