Project Description:
Start-Up/Florida is a collaborative grant funded by the US Department of Labor. Florida is one of three participating states, along with Alaska and New York. The main Florida collaborators are the USF Center for Inclusive Communties, the Agency for Workforce Innovation and the Agency for Persons with Disabilities. The purpose of Start-Up/Florida is to implement and evaluate three self-employment modules for youth and adults with disabilities. In addition to the implementation and evaluation the project strives to provide cross training opportunities with the Workforce system in Florida. The project is focusing on three areas of the state, Duval, Polk and Broward Counties. Start-Up/Florida (USF) will support three individuals with disabilities, per year, to develop viable business plans and align the necessary supports for the implementation of the business plans. Six addition (three each) individuals will be supported in self-employment through the Agency for Persons with Disabilities and the Agency for Workforce Innovation. In addition to the individual self-employment outcomes, the project will seek to create awareness and capacity for self-employment supports.
