Project Description:
This grant money is used to develop and implement a parent training pilot for infected/ affeccted adolescents and young adult parents. The curriculum is a 12 week relationship based innovative parenting program that intends to address the complex parenting needs of these young parents. We will teach parenting skillsin the context of the parent-child dyad while attending to issues of individualization, self esteem, life management skills and feelings of inadequacy typical of late adolescence. In addition to learning about important developmental milestones for infants and toddlers, like most traditional parenting training deliver, participants will achieve a greater sense of mastery over their parenting role thus strengthtening their capacity for responsive and synchronized parenting. We propose that this model is a more effective way to change parenting styles and practices.
