Project Description:
The objective of Direct Instruction is to integrate Direct Instruction in a preschool program, provide behavioral management as a complement or precursor to DI as needed, measure and disseminate the results of the project, and explore with the school district the possibility of piloting DI in its kindergarten program. The initial target of the project is children between the ages of 3.5 and 5 years of age whose developmental skills and prerequisite behavioral skills are problematic and serve as barriers to adjusting to the typical classroom environment, instructional methods, and curriculum, and adquiring early school success competencies. The primary objective is to increase the learning and readiness skills for kindergarten so that students meet or exceed the new Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Early Learning Standards. The direct impact of DI on child and program outcomes will be monitored through SPECS evaluation research.
