Level systems in juvenile justice settings are protocols designed to facilitate cooperation amongst incarcerated youth. To date, there is a dearth of research on the empirical effectiveness of levels systems, perhaps because concerns regarding use have illuminated issues with their utility, efficacy, and fidelity. This paper discusses the limited empirical literature on levels systems, concerns associated with levels systems, and potential strategies to ameliorate said concerns.
