UWEP Thanks foundry10 for Funding Employment Programs for Individuals with Disabilities

March 6, 2025

The Washington Employment Program (UWEP), part of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at University of Washington Institute on Human Development and Disability (UW IHDD), is excited to announce funding from foundry10 to support two novel programs aimed at enhancing employment outcomes for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD).

The first initiative focuses on transition-age youth with ID/DD, supporting their transition from school to work through a two-part model that combines educational workshops for students and parents with paid internships at local businesses. This model fosters real-world work experience and job readiness skills, preparing young adults for successful employment.

The second program introduces an innovative group telemedicine approach to help clients with ID/DD develop stress management strategies, ensuring they have the tools to thrive in the workplace.

Katherine Bournelis, MA, CRC, serves as the Director of UWEP and is a first-year PhD student in Rehabilitation Science, with Dr. Kurt Johnson as the Principal Investigator (PI).

“We are grateful for foundry10’s support in advancing these innovative approaches to employment success,” said Bournelis.
