This presentation will explore strategies for supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in navigating aging, serious illness, and end of life. Drawing upon research, practice, and systems-level perspectives, the presentation will highlight policy considerations, organizational models, and practical resources that can help individuals, families, providers, and service systems engage in advance care planning and person-centered end-of-life care. Jackie McGinley is a licensed social worker and Associate Professor in the Department of Social Work at Binghamton University. She earned her PhD from the University at Buffalo School of Social Work and completed a year-long fellowship through the University of Rochester’s Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) program. Informed by more than 20 years of experience in the field of disability, her scholarship focuses on improving care for people with disabilities as they age, experience serious illness, and reach life’s end.
