Please join AUCD for a LEND Audiology Trainee Workshop on Sunday, March 15th, from 1:00-4:00 PM EST, during the 2026 Early Hearing Detection Intervention (EHDI) Conference in Jacksonville, Florida. It is a unique, interactive learning opportunity that brings together trainees and faculty from across the country. Pre-registration is encouraged to secure your spot, as the number of walk-ins is limited. Please note that all participants must be affiliated with a LEND program.
John (JJ) Whicker
Multidisciplinary Lab for Pediatric Hearing Development
Pediatric Audiologist and Clinical Researcher
Dr. John (JJ) Whicker is a pediatric audiologist and clinical researcher. His lab - the Multidisciplinary Lab for Pediatric Hearing and Development - seeks to inform and transform pediatric audiology through (a) understanding how audiologists can help families prioritize hearing care amid complex needs, (b) understanding how listening development can guide audiologic certainty for children with multiple disabilities, and (c) understand how mismatches between listening behavior and audiograms can be identified and treated through early intervention practices.
Previously, Dr. Whicker worked as a pediatric audiologist and researcher at Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City, UT. He most recently was a co-owner at Utah's only private pediatric audiology clinic in Layton, UT (Little Heroes Pediatric Hearing Clinic). Dr. Whicker joined The University of Utah's faculty in July 2025 to pursue his research interests while continuing a practice in pediatric audiology.

Jami Fries is mom to two boys in Colorado, Nathan (age 10) and Liam (age 13). Nathan, her youngest, is profoundly deaf in both ears due to congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV). Jami is the Executive Director for Colorado Hands & Voices, and Regional Coordinator for Hands & Voices Regions 7 & 8. She runs the Colorado CMV Family Network, co-runs the Colorado VSV Program, and helps guide Colorado families who are raising their children who are deaf/hard of hearing.

Data Outreach / Guide By Your Side Coordinator
Kelly Fernandez-Kroyer lives in Colorado with her husband and their two sons, Ethan and Noah. Noah was born at 32 weeks and initially passed his newborn hearing screening. At six months old, due to concerns about developmental milestones, he was referred to Early Intervention. He referred on his subsequent screenings, and it took eighteen months to receive an official diagnosis of mild-to-moderate low-frequency unilateral hearing loss (UHL) in his right ear.
Before Noah’s diagnosis, Kelly spent more than ten years working in the nonprofit sector. She currently serves as the Data Outreach/ Guide By Your Side (GBYS) Coordinator for Colorado Hands & Voices. Kelly holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Creative Director
Brooke Montgomery is the Creative Director at Hands & Voices and a Technical Assistance Advisor for the FL3 Center—and she’s also a mom to three boys, including one who is Deaf/Hard of Hearing Plus. Her work is shaped by both professional and personal experience, and she partners with DHH Plus families and systems across the country to strengthen family-centered support. Brooke focuses on improving coordination across audiology, early intervention, and related services, and she’s especially passionate about practical, collaborative solutions that truly support families and help kids thrive.
