Council on Research and Evaluation (CORE) in Plain Language

The Council on Research and Evaluation (CORE) is a group that focuses on research and measuring how programs are working. "Evaluation" is a way of checking if a project is actually helping people the way it should.

This group acts as a voice for all the researchers in the network. They make sure that the research done by members creates positive change for everyone.

How CORE Helps

CORE works with AUCD to make sure the network is doing high-quality projects. The council helps by:

  • Meeting Goals: Making sure the network finishes the research projects they promised to do.
  • Teaching Others: Hosting training sessions to show members new ways to research and measure their work.
  • Building Skills: Helping each university center get better at doing its own research.
  • Giving Advice: Finding popular research topics for network members. They also give the AUCD leaders suggestions on what they should do next.
  • Including Families: Making sure people with disabilities and their families are part of the research, not just studied by it.

Who Can Join?

Anyone in the AUCD network who is interested in science, data, or checking how programs work can join. You just have to select "CORE" in your online member profile.

While anyone can be a member, each center picks one person to be its official "voter" for big decisions. You can find the leaders of this council on the left side of the webpage.

What is Expected of Members?

If you join CORE, you are expected to stay involved by:

  • Attending the in-person meeting once a year at the AUCD Conference.
  • Joining a phone call or online meeting four times a year (once every few months) to stay updated.
