Abstract: CDCI Outreach Initiative for Vermont PRIDE Curriculum
The Center for Disability and Community Inclusion is preparing a proposal for a $59, 500 contract with the Vermont Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and the Statewide Independent Living Council. The proposal is to carry out a 21-month outreach initiative to introduce the Vermont PRIDE Curriculum into 10 Vermont schools and to identify 25 schools interested in future ?best practice? partnerships using the PRIDE curriculum. Work on this project will be integrated into UVM?s Disability and Culture class as one of 3 projects students can elect to do for credit in the course. In addition, Deborah Lisi-Baker, Bryan Dague, participating I-Team staff, and community-based parents and individuals with disabilities will assist with outreach and recruitment in ten elementary and secondary schools in Vermont. Deborah Lisi-Baker and Bryan Dague will also work with the CDCI information technology specialist on the development of a PRIDE web page and related video and audio clips; develop a media packet for distribution to Vermont schools and media sources; develop introductory materials for inclusion in the Culture of Disability Class, and provide orientation and training for participating CDCI staff, UVM students and parents and individuals with disabilities who agree introduce the PRIDE curriculum into their local schools
