Project Description:
Families with members and individual adults with developmental disabilities in Vermont have benefited from support and navigation from other experienced family members. The Green Mountain Family Support 360 Special Initiative Emergency Planning Project is built on both formal and informal support endeavors from many self-advocacy organizations, family organizations and human service partners that have operated in Vermont for over two decades. This proposal submitted to the Administration on Developmental Disabilities provides an opportunity to bring these various Vermont initiatives and partners together to build statewide and local strategies for family support during emergency preparedness. This proposed project will develop the Vermont 360 collaborative approach, with peer navigators and navigator teams available to support rural families with members with disabilities, both children and adults during emergencies. The Green Mountain Family Support 360 Special Initiative Emergency Planning Project partners will work together to: (a) develop specific tools and strategies to help families create Individual Emergency Preparedness Plans; (b) add a component of Emergency Planning to the current Family Support Planning process, to prepare rural families who have family members with developmental disabilities to respond to the emergencies particular to the Vermont environment; and (c) develop materials and planning processes that will be available to the general public as well as members of the disability community.
