2002 Disability Policy Leadership Fellow
Ethan Long, PhD, BCBA-D, served as the 2002 AUCD Disability Policy Leadership Fellow. Currently, he is the Executive Director at the Virginia Institute of Autism. Prior to his employment at VIA, he was Executive Director for The Bay School (TBS) and Vice President of May Institute's West Coast Region in Santa Cruz, CA. He oversaw operations for not only TBS and its related early intervention and school consultation services but also May Institute's Pediatric Specialty Center in San Jose and all new initiatives on the West Coast. Prior to joining TBS, Ethan served as a project director for a federal cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC's) National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities to strengthen the nation's capacity to carry out public health activities in the areas of birth defects, developmental disabilities and health promotion for people living with disabilities. Ethan holds a Ph.D. in child clinical psychology from West Virginia University and is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA-D). He completed a pre-doctoral internship and post-doctoral fellowship at the Kennedy Krieger Institute and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, working with children with autism and a variety of developmental and behavioral disorders. He has authored over 20 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters related to Applied Behavior Analysis, and he currently serves on the editorial board of Behavior Analysis in Practice.
With regard to his time at AUCD, Ethan stated, "I have had the opportunity to participate in activities and meet individuals that will help me to broaden my future role within the network. These experiences have changed my perspective of how individuals with disabilities are impacted by policy at the National level and how the AUCD network plays a role in influencing the process. I look forward to continuing my activities in Washington and am thankful for the fellowship opportunity".
