Project Description:
The JFK Charter School Contract provides School Nursing, Social Work and Psychology services in four Denver Charter Schools. The services are provided by fellows supervised by JFK Partners faculty. Service delivery is provided through a combination of methods including direct services to individual students in classrooms and other school settings and activities, services delivered in small groups, and consultation to teachers, teaching assistants, and other school personnel for all educational activities that are part of the IEP. These related service providers are supervised and monitored by an experienced clinician from JFK Partners with general support and daily monitoring available from each of the four schools. In addition to the provision of direct services, related service providers from JFK Partners are responsible for participating in IEP development, monitoring student progress and outcomes, and consultation with classroom teachers. These fellowships may be for up to two years and the fellows participate in the JFK core curriculum and a team seminar under the supervision of a JFK faculty member. The fellows hired by UCDHSC provide services as follows: - School psychologist is responsible for initial assessments, reevaluations, and intervention to children in the school setting. - School social worker is responsible for social work intervention to children in school and their family as it pertains to the child?s ongoing participation in school. - School nurse is responsible for monitoring the general health of children in school, overseeing immunization records, health related screening, and responding to questions regarding health plans or medications provided at school. - Formal written assessment as part of a child's IEP including any other necessary documentation. - IEP conferences with parents and school administrators. - Training and support of teachers within the classroom. - Support of other disciplines working in the classroom. - Collaborative team meetings. - Occasional staff meetings.
