Parent Self-Determination Support Project
Project Description:
The Parent Self-Determination Support Project is a state-wide project that
will provide parent-led trainings and informal meetings for Alaskan parents
of elementary, middle and secondary students that will focus on
self-determination and transition issues. The goals will be to increase
student and parent participation in IEP and transition meetings and to
improve their ability to support self-determination in the home.
These activities will be held in conjunction with activities of the Teaching
Self-Determination in the Schools project. The project will also build on
current collaborations with the STeP program in Anchorage School District
and classrooms in Mat-Su, Northstar and Cordova schools. Outreach will
target parents who participate in parent support groups and district-based
training. The Project staff will also coordinate requests for
person-centered planning for the Center for Human Development?s cadre of
trained facilitators.
