Project Description:
NEEDS: To enhance the capacity of the Chinese American Planning Council in serving the needs of Chinese immigrants with a young adult with a disability, in particular an intellectual or developmental disability. GOALS/OBJECTIVES: For this project, the Center on Community Living and Careers (CCLC) at Indiana University will provide training and technical assistance to the Chinese American Planning Council (a contractor of the New York Developmental Disability Council) in the implementation and delivery of the Family Employment Awareness Training (FEAT). UNUSUAL FEATURES: FEAT will be translated into Mandarin and delivered to a primarily Mandarin speaking immigrant families in Queens, New York. Additional effort will be made to ensure that resources identified can address the needs of this population. EXPECTED BENEFITS: FEAT will be conducted across Queens and Manhattan in both English and Mandarin – making New York the 6th state to adopt FEAT. Chinese immigrants will feel comfortable helping their children with disabilities to obtain competitive employment in their community.
