Project Description:
Nevada Path to Independence Project is an inclusive, two-year non-degree certificate program for students with intellectual/developmental disabilities at UNR. It is a collaboration of the Nevada Center for Excellence in Disabilities and Extended Studies at UNR, with support from Vocational Rehabilitation and Aging and Disability Services Division. In order to achieve outcomes of employment and independence, the project is structured into three areas: Academics & Campus Activities, Employment, and Independent Living. The pilot program, with one student, began fall semester 2013. Two new student were added fall 2014. For the 2024-2025 school year, P2I has 18 students. In 2016, P2I was designated as a Comprehensive Transition Program by the U.S. Dept. of Education, which enables students to apply for Federal Student Aid. In addition, in 2018 P2I was certified as a Jobs & day Training (JDT) provider, enabling P2I to bill ADSD for educational coaching services. In 2020, P2I became a Medicaid vendor.
