I LEAD: Innovative Leadership Education Advancing Diversity
Project Description:
Innovative Leadership Education Advancing Diversity (I LEAD) will train six doctoral students at the University of Oregon over five years increasing the number of qualified bilingual and bicultural special education faculty who will be able to infuse content on English learners (ELs) with disabilities into their research, teaching, and service. Scholars will receive a PhD in Special Education and will gain competence in (1) Language and literacy practices with ELs with disabilities (2) Leadership and collaboration (3) the cultural adaptation of evidence-based practices, and (4) advanced quantitative research methodology. These future leaders with develop a strong background in bilingual development, bilingual instructional and assessment practices, and social, cultural and economic influences on child development that increase risk for EL populations in the US and the role of special education in ameliorating risk and improving developmental and academic outcomes.
