Project Description:
University Center on Excellence on Developmental Disabilities will assist the Navajo Nation with transition services for youth with disabilities by working with schools. Services to be Provided: 1) Partner with local schools to build capacity for providing transition services and work -based learning opportunities that prepare and support Native youth with disabilities for post- secondary education and employment after graduation. 2) Develop innovative work-based learning opportunities such as expansion of Project SEARCH, inclusive CTE programs, virtual work experiences, employer-driven apprenticeships and internships, post-secondary experiences, and after school/summer work experiences. 3) Design an approach for serving Navajo youth beginning in two (2) schools and expanding to two (2) other schools providing direct services, training, technical assistance, and family resources. 4) Contribute and braid state federal vocational rehabilitation dollars to support staff resources that can assist schools with expanding their work-based learning capacity and provide direct student work-based learning services. 5) Partner with local providers to build capacity for providing supported employment services that result in competitive employment outcomes. 6) Contribute and braid Kessler Foundation dollars to support staff resources that can assist providers with expanding their employment service capacity and provide direct job coach assistance to achieve successful competitive and self-employment.
