Project Description:
Personal Responsibility Education Program grant funding to implement population specific youth sexual health programming (Friendships & Dating Program), for youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities, 18-21 years of age. In 2020-2021, the University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities at OHSU is partnering with the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) to provide teacher training and support to Oregon high school transition programs to teach skills that will promote sexual health and healthy relationships. Participating programs will receive training to facilitate Friendships & Dating (F&D), an evidence-based sexual health and relationships curriculum developed by the University of Alaska University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD). The F&D program teaches individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities the skills needed to develop meaningful relationships and prevent interpersonal violence. The projects scope includes training, curriculum, and financial support for programs to implement F&D within transition classrooms. F&D curriculum is not being evaluated for efficacy because it has already been rigorously evaluated. Collect data from federal performance measures to be used to help guide the administration on funding. Learn how to improve the quality of instruction in sexual health for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Learn about what training is needed to sustain quality in implementation of the F&D curriculum.
