Project Description:
The Center for Change in Transition Services is committed to providing training, technical assistance, and fiscal and material resources to special education personnel serving special education students age 14 through 21 in order to positively impact the post-school outcomes for these youth. This proposal addresses the 6 goals identified in the OSPI Connecting IDEAs Project: 1.) Improve the academic performance of students receiving special education services. The Center proposes to train special education personnel in order to provide academic and vocational options for students in special education. 2.) Improve the post-school performance of students receiving special education services. The Center will continue collecting, analyzing and disseminating statewide post-school performance data for special education graduates for local, regional and local program review, evaluation and decision-making. 3.) Insure that eligible special education students receive a free appropriate public education. The Center will conduct targeted secondary program reviews using quality indicators in order to insure that all special education students age 14 through 21 receive transition services as defined in IDEA. 4.) Enhance pre-service preparation opportunities for all personnel. The Center will provide in-service preparation opportunities to students at colleges and universities in Washington by offering access via video K-20 and Internet access. 5.) Enhance in-service preparation activities. The Center will provide state, regional, and local training for special education personnel through regional cohort internships, workshops, and state and regional conferences. 6.) Retain and enhance skills of existing special education personnel. The Center will provide support and assistance to special education personnel through on-site visits, conference calls, website access, and by developing statewide mentors identified through exemplary transition programs
