Indiana's Child Find & Early Identification Efforts
Project Description:
The Riley Child Development Center (RCDC) and the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community (IIDC) are collaborating on a proposal to examine Indianas efforts to find and identify children birth through five years of age with developmental disabilities and their families. This exploratory investigation across Indianas Part C (First Steps) and Part B (preschool special education) programs will examine how successfully these service systems locate and make available early intervention services to all eligible children with developmental delays and disabilities through the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Its goal is to discover how we might improve Indianas efforts to find and identify its youngest children with developmental disabilities. This proposal is in response to the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)s request for applications.
If funded, this partnership would utilize existing data share agreements IIDC has with both First Steps and the Indiana Department of Education and its Office of Special Education Programs. The agreements would be leveraged to create and implement a data analysis plan linking Indianas First Steps (Part C) child data with the states Part B data for all children receiving general and special education services, preschool through Grade 3.
