Northeast Region Accessibility Training Course
Project Description:
The Introduction to Accessibility Management for NPS Units course is a 4-plus day long training program designed to provide participants with foundational knowledge and skills to develop the competencies to successfully perform the duties of the park accessibility coordinator and/or execute accessibility program management activities at NPS units, enhancing the visitor experience for individuals with disabilities. This training is a competency-based curriculum, integrating the proposed NPS Accessibility Competencies into each learning event. Content areas include:
an overview of the legal requirements and accessibility standards
understanding people with disabilities and how they interact with their environment
best practices for removing barriers and planning to improve access for people with disabilities
where to find accessibility resources and how to be an accessibility resource for your park
Following completion of this course, students will be able to do the following:
Discuss how people with disabilities use and benefit from experiences in parks
Identify barriers that prevent people with disabilities from accessing parks
List resources for information related to accessibility needs at parks
Identify the outcomes of a successful park accessibility management program
EPLY will provide the IAM training as outlined in the attached draft course agenda to be revised after conversation with NPS project leaders.
The period of performance (POP) for this work is expected to be initiated in September 2021 with training the week of November 1, 2021, and with completion of all project closeout requirements by November 30, 2021, based on issuance of the call order for work under Indiana Universitys contract number.
