Project Description:
DIRECT SERVICES:
The Nevada Center for Excellence in Disabilities (NCED) will develop an intensive interdisciplinary behavior support pilot program to serve youth with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and/or co-occurring mental health diagnoses. Qualifying youth will have previously accessed state services through the Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) and/or Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) without demonstrating significant improvement in behavior and/or quality of life. In year 1 of the pilot program, the NCED will develop an interdisciplinary team to provide intensive case management, behavior assessments, interdisciplinary behavior intervention plans, a model for staff training, and data collection and oversight. The fee for this service will range from $6,000 to $11,000 (before travel expenses) per child depending on the intensity of the case and the need for professionals on the interdisciplinary team. The lower level of service will include BCBA consultation with a licensed masters level clinician and will include a functional behavior assessment, behavior intervention plan, staff training, and data management. The higher level of service will include consultation with a doctoral level interdisciplinary team (services outlined in the below table). The project will serve between 5- 15 youth per year, depending on the location of the child and the intensity of needs. All services will occur in the childs home/school environment and team meetings will occur at various DCFS buildings around the state.
INFRASTRUCTURE SERVICES:
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS DWTC)
Desert Willow Treatment Center DWTC is Nevadas only adolescent psychiatric hospital, serving children from all over the state.
With this contract, a multi-tiered system of support will be used to systematically implement behavioral interventions in a hierarchy of needs. In order to build capacity for sustainable implementation, the Nevada PBIS Technical Assistance Center will identify and train a core team, build the internal capacity of at least one identified internal team coach, and the entire staff will receive training and coaching within each of the three tiers. It is standard to implement one tier per year or until high fidelity of implementation is reached, therefore estimating that full implementation will take approximately three years. This project will be funded for years 1 and 2 only, with sustainable funding built into the state budget. All project activities will take place on site at Desert Willow Treatment Center located in Las Vegas, NV.
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS High End JJ)
Behavioral systems will be built at state-run intensive juvenile justice facility and youth parole sites using a multi- tiered behavior framework. Support services include systems assessments, analysis, planning, and development of policies and procedures for preventing and addressing behavioral concerns across a continuum of needs. Training and technical assistance will be provided on a regular schedule on topics including systems development, staff training and buy-in, evidence-based practices, data collection, and data-based decision making. This project will be funded for years 1 and 2 only, with sustainable funding built into the state budget. All project activities will take place on site at Summit View Youth Correctional Facility located in Las Vegas, NV.
Intellectual Disabilities/Developmental Disabilities Training for DCFS Staff
DCFS staff are coming into more regular contact with the ID/DD population, which requires a specific skill-set. DCFS will contract with experts to train staff on how to appropriately support this population. Two trainings will be held each year, one in the north and one in the south. Trainings will be approximately 2 days in length and will be held in collaboration with colleagues from Aging and Disability Services Division. This project will be funded for years 1 and 2 only, with sustainable funding built into the state budget. All project activities will take place at DCFS or ADSD locations in the north and south.
