Center for Child Development Mini-fellowships for Community Health Care Providers
Project Description:
Each minifellowship is typically a 10-week, 50-hour CME experience for pediatric generalists (community pediatricians, pediatric nurse practitioners, or physician's assistants) from group practices who will participate in an educational immersion experience in the screening, assessment and management of autism and other NDD. Some mini-fellowships are held over the course of one week. One afternoon each week mini-fellows will work with a developmental-behavioral pediatrician or neurodevelopmental disabilities physician and behavior analyst to evaluate three to four patients. To enhance the educational experience, the participants will work with at least five different physicians. Additional learning experiences will include a journal club on high-yield topics in autism and other NDD, training in ASD screening using the STAT-MD model, and lectures on selected topics, such as genetic testing in children with IDD. The participants will be assessed on their knowledge, skill, and attitude acquisitions through a pre-test, a post-test, and a chart-stimulated recall oral examination.
