Project Description:
We propose to adapt two courses in the Indiana Vocational Rehabilitation Leadership Academy (VRLA) courses and deliver them to the state of Florida Division of Vocational Rehabilitation over the period of 9/1/2019-2/28/2020.
The Center on Community Living and Careers (CCLC) has developed 33 courses included in the Indiana Vocational Rehabilitation Leadership Academy (VRLA). One major advantage of the VRLA is that it allows new and veteran staff to have a location for resources, documents, or review materials. The possibilities to expand and redesign the VRLA are endless, allowing for states to decide to make changes or additions in the future should the training needs of state VR Counselors change. The courses consist of a series of modules or trainings (units) in a specific area of study. We have three major areas of study into which the training modules in the VRLA are divided: (a) Orientation Courses, (b) Core Courses, and (c) Specialty Courses.
CCLC ensures that all trainings and courses online are interactive and accessible to all participants. Course evaluations, embedded learner feedback and pre/post test results are included in all courses. All content is aligned with VRS policy and procedures, Federal legislation and state rules (e.g., updated Federal Regulations for the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, VR Policy and Procedure, RSA guidance documents), evidence-based practices and standards of practice for counselors and other VRS staff, and 508 compliance.
The VRLA courses are housed within the Canvas learning management system hosted by Indiana University. Canvas includes most of the standard tools found in open source and commercial management systems (assignments, discussions, announcements, quizzes, syllabus, etc.) as well as enhanced tools and features for communication, collaboration, and assessment, including real-time web conferencing, a multimedia recorder, a Google Docs integration, outcomes and rubrics, and course analytics. VR staff can use Canvas to access the VRLA system via an Indiana University Guest account. Canvas at IU can be accessed from a web browser (on a computer, smartphone, or tablet) or via the mobile apps distributed by Instructure.
