Family Employment Awareness Training/AWS
Project Description:
FEAT provides families with a network of both other families and employment resources in their community. It helps families gain a better understanding of the transition planning process and how to prepare for postsecondary challenges. In addition, families are provided follow-up technical assistant to support their desired plans.
The young adults with disabilities who attend the FEAT program will gain knowledge of supports and services, learn self-advocacy skills related to employment, and gain an understanding of disability disclosure. They will also have the opportunity to put a face to employment providers in their area.
Educators, who will hopefully attend with a family they work with, will gain much needed knowledge about adult service systems. They will have the opportunity to plan with families and young adults and discuss ways to increase successful transitions. Educators will also meet local adult services/provider representatives to increase their personal knowledge of supports in the area.
