Project Description:
The purpose of this project is to incorporate an accessible, web-based, professional development tool called Future Quest Island (FQI) and to develop a Teacher Toolkit to disseminate resources to middle school teachers on how to use this FQI effectively to embed technology into the middle school curriculum. Think College and Career Island is being designed to support the development of college and career readiness for middle school youth with (and without) disabilities, through activities that promote student self-discovery, advocacy, exploration, organization, and technology literacy skills. The FQI website will be accessible to a wide range of users and will feature standards-based lesson plans highlighting specific transition objectives and outcomes. The Teacher Toolkit will encompass a broad-range of professional development opportunities that guide middle school special and general educators on how to use FQI to embed 21st century skills and college and career readiness goals into their classrooms. Future Quest Island will allow middle school youth to: Recognize and identify their academic strengths and desires Explore and prioritize college and career options Become more familiar with online safety Develop increased social skills Access digital educational resources Collect and organize digital materials to construct an ePortfolio and Individualized Learning Plan (ILP). Future Quest Island and the Teacher Toolkit will be aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, existing college and career readiness tools, and self-determination models, and will integrate 21st century skills for academic achievement and career readiness.
