15- DOH Early Identification and Intervention for Autism Spectrum DisordersTraining for Public Health Staff (FY 2015)
Project Description:
Goal: Strengthen South Dakotas state and community systems for early identification and intervention for childrenwith signs of ASD/DD by providing training and technical assistance to SD Department of Health staff.
Objective 1: Develop and provide training and technical assistance regarding early identification and
intervention for children with signs of ASD/DD to public health staff.
Activities:
Develop training to help public health staff effectively use materials to share information regarding
milestones, early warning signs and screening information for families with individuals receiving
services through their clinics and offices.
Provide one full-day training session in each of 4 locations in SD (for the purpose of covering the
seven regions of the state).
Provide follow-up technical assistance to each of seven identified regions: Aberdeen, Watertown,
Sioux Falls, Mitchell, Rapid City, Sturgis, Pierre. Technical assistance will be delivered remotely, via
DDN, teleconference, etc.
Objective 2: Evaluate effectiveness and outcomes
Activities:
Staff will collaborate with the SD DOH to determine specific data collection and outcomes measures.
The information will be reported to the SD DOH on a quarterly basis.
