Friday, October 18 & Saturday, October 19, 2013 Chicago, IL, Hyatt Regency Chicago The Next Chapter Book Club and Beyond is the first-ever conference on literacy for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The purpose of this conference is to share insights, experiences, and strategies on literacy and lifelong learning for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Conference Features Exploration of new approaches to enhance adult literacy and learning Challenging the status quo regarding how adults with IDD can engage in their communities and pursue meaningful learning activities A series of brief, engaging, and dynamic presentations Opportunities to exchange and discuss ideas Pre-conference training for those interested in establishing an NCBC program Sample Topics Developing language and conversation skills Making the most of diversity within book clubs Using social media and other technology to expand literacy skills Promoting self-expression through creative writing Putting self-determination into practice Presenters Featured speaker Ms. Cathy Ficker Terrill NCBC members, facilitators, and affiliates/coordinators Family members and support persons Researchers, educators, and professionals
