Project Description:
The goal of Arizona Inclusion NOW is to improve recruitment of people with disabilities into National Service through targeted efforts in schools and the community.
Activities:
Increase awareness in the disability community of opportunities for national service to include dissemination of information to disability organizations on the benefits and opportunities through AmeriCorps.
Increase service program knowledge and understanding of persons with disabilities as valued participants in national service.
Create a fellowship position to support a peer with a significant disability in applying for and serving in a national service program.
Develop a video on national service programs for a disability community audience.
Develop and implement an outreach strategy to inform recently returned veterans with disabilities about national service opportunities.
Partner with the Disability Resource Center at the U of A to conduct outreach and promotion of national service among students and student athletes with disabilities at the U of A with replication strategies for other colleges and universities.
Participate in the Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities Inclusion Team quarterly meetings.
Partner with high school transition coordinators to promote participation of special education students in Learn and Serve Programs.
