Project Description:
Autism Workforce Initiative (AWI) is a program to: 1) train primary care physicians to evaluate children who have screened positive for Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) at 24 months of age using a model developed at Vanderbilt University (19 clinicians have been trained so far); 2) replicate the Early Foundation Autism Model (an early intervention program for children with ASD and 3 replication programs have been started); and 3) enhance the training of the county coordinators in the Sooner SUCCESS program about ASD (10 coordinators have been trained).. The project has collaborated with the state early intervention program and the state Medicaid authority and is funded through a state legislative appropriation.
