Project Context:
Think College, at the Institute for Community Inclusion, University of Massachusetts, has funded six statewide strategic planning grants and two implementation grants to support the development and implementation of postsecondary education initiatives for students with intellectual disability. The Think College grants are funded through a grant award from the Administration on Developmental Disabilities (ADD)in partnership with the Association of University Centers for Excellence (AUCD).
Project Focus:
The CPD, the UCEDD at USU, has been awarded one of the six Think College grants.
The purpose of the Utah Postsecondary Inclusion Project (UPIP) is to plan collaboratively on a state level and develop a statewide action plan that will increase opportunities for inclusive postsecondary education for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Project?s overarching goal is to increase the participation of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in inclusive postsecondary opportunities.
Project Outcomes and Products:
The CPD staff will complete the following outcomes:
1) Form a state level action team, representing key stakeholders, to develop a comprehensive, statewide action plan to increase opportunities for fully inclusive postsecondary education for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
2) Gather statewide information about developing additional opportunities for students with intellectual/developmental disabilities to fully participate in all aspects of postsecondary education and the resources needed to support these.
3) Develop a comprehensive, statewide action plan to increase the participation of students with intellectual and developmental disabilities in inclusive postsecondary education programs.
4) Implement those components of the action plan that are feasible within the time frame of the project. Implement additional components of the action plan after the project period by following the sustainability portion of the plan.
