Project Description:
Set Yourself Free is a statewide initiative with the purpose of creating a virtual and sustainable information system that will provide pertinent information to youth and emerging leaders with disabilities on a variety of different topics such as health, education, employment, and social services. The system?s information will serve and be updated constantly by youth members themselves as they share information through the network that is relevant to them on state, regional, and local levels. SYF champions the cause of independence and self-determination through education and mentoring programs via Youth Action Council of Arizona (YAC-AZ). YAC-AZ serves as the youth recruitment and organization tool of SYF. Its purpose is to provide youth with disabilities a group in which they have the opportunity to meet, interact, and work with other youth towards the common goal of promoting self-determination through independence and self-advocacy. Since its inception, YAC-AZ has consisted of youth whose members range in age from fourteen to thirty. The youth governing sets the agenda in compliance with YAC-AZ goals and its members undergo training in life skills that teach the necessary skills to live healthier and more independent lives within their communities.
