College Access Program for Rural Alaska
Project Description:
The College Access Project for Rural Alaska (CAPRA) requests funding to increase the capacity of small rural university campuses to provide students with disabilities a quality higher education. To improve knowledge, understanding, and instructional delivery by accommodating students with disabilities and diverse learning styles, CAPRA provides training and technical assistance to adjunct and full-time faculty. Adjunct faculty comprise 80+% of faculty at the 6 small, rural campuses of University of Alaska Anchorage with which CAPRA is working. Adjunct faculty, who receive little if any professional development, teach students using some of the most challenging delivery methods. Their needs for training and support to adapt curriculum and classroom delivery for students with disabilities are as vast as their geographic service areas.
