SCEIs Early Intervention Needs Assessment
Project Description:
According to the 1999 Needs Assessment survey of the Comprehensive System of Personnel Development (CSPD) for part C of IDEA, half of their respondents are offering training in working with infants and toddlers but 43% still do not offer specialized training in Early Intervention. Approximately 40% of children receiving early intervention services in Georgia belong to minority families (GA Division of Public Health, 2001) and 10% live in homes where English is not spoken at all. In effort to increase the extent to which early intervention is infused in postsecondary education and to ensure that education promotes services offered that are culturally and linguistically appropriate, the EI Needs Assessment is distributed on a three-year cycle to all departments that prepare early intervention personnel in Georgia's technical institutions, colleges, and universities, as well as to a sample of public and private providers. Respondents submit information related to training opportunities and needs. These assessments provide input to the State Babies Can't Wait Part C Program about the status of pre-service and in-service training. Recommendations from the survey guide state level agency-sponsored training efforts.
