Project Description:
This is a statewide program that covers the areas of training, services, research and information dissemination. Inservice trainings are available ?see web page for a complete listing of these. On-site consultations as well as technical assistance is available through two educational strategists. One is in the eastern part of the state and one is placed in the western part of the state. Interdisciplinary diagnostic services are available both on the eastern side of the state and the western side of the state. Funding is available to assist individuals that need assistance covering the cost of the evaluation. A follow-up on-site consultation is built into the cost of the diagnostic evaluation. Case management for women considered at-risk of abusing alcohol during their child bearing years is available at select sites across the state. In addition community based prevention activities are targeting specific reservation areas and a self-guided help curriculum is available for women statewide. The FAS Consortium, including SD, ND and MN provide research activities as a part of this program. A vast array of resources are disseminated through this program. This includes a FASD Newsletter; FAS Handbook; Issue Briefs from research findings; DVDs, books, curriculums, videos, etc are available for no cost through a check-out system at the Wegner Health Science Information Center of which the Center for Disabilities is a partner. A new resource guide on alcohol and addiction treatment services in the state is also available. In early 2009 an educational strategy handbook will be available.
