Project Description:
The Center for Disabilities started a book club on April 27, 2006 with three young adults who were interesting in reading good books and spending time with their friends. Book clubs are a great way to build literacy skills, make social connections, improve self-esteem, enjoy literature and have fun! A book club can be structured in many different ways. Our book club meets three times a month for one hour. As a group we decide which book we will read and then we make our plans on how to get the copies of the book for each participant. Our group decided that we would read aloud at each meeting. Everyone is encouraged to read aloud; however, they can ask for help or can pass if they choose.
