        Product Description:
Estimates of parental use of corporal punishment as a disciplinary technique range as high as 94%. In contrast to these findings, 30 countries have banned corporal punishment of children, and 28 states and the District of Columbia have banned corporal punishment in schools. Given widespread efforts to eliminate corporal punishment with children, the use of time-out (TO) strategies as a behavior management tool has become commonplace. TO procedures have been well specified and the effectiveness of TO is thoroughly supported by the literature. TO also is advocated by children?s advocacy groups, such as the American Academy of Pediatrics (American Academy of Pediatrics, 1998), as an acceptable disciplinary strategy and an alternative to spanking. We investigated current trends in parenting advice as provided by a mixed group of family practitioners and pediatricians. In particular, we investigated practitioner?s current recommendations to parents about TO.
