The WVU Center for Excellence in Disabilities (CED) has released the Protect Disability Network Digital Toolkit in response to the proposed elimination of federal funding for programs that support people with disabilities, including UCEDDs, NIDILRR, and other critical services. If enacted, the FY2026 budget proposal would devastate disability services across the country—especially in underserved areas like West Virginia, where over one-third of adults have a disability. WVU CED alone reached more than 435,000 individuals last year through clinical care, training, research, and resource dissemination. The loss of funding would halt all of this work and prevent the center from leveraging over $10 million in additional support.
The digital toolkit provides easy-to-use resources for advocates, families, and professionals to contact Congress, share personal stories, and raise awareness. It includes sample emails, social media graphics, talking points, and guidance on submitting stories to influence policymakers. WVU CED urges the public to use these tools to defend essential disability programs and ensure continued support for individuals with disabilities in West Virginia and beyond.
