Job Description

The Institute for Human Development (IHD) at Northern Arizona University (NAU) is seeking an Associate Director. IHD is a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) located in . It is an interdisciplinary unit housed in the NAU College of Social and Behavioral Sciences and is the oldest Institute at NAU. IHD typically has between 40 to 60 full-time staff members, who develop and lead programs in four core areas related to improving the life outcomes of individuals with disabilities: research and evaluation; service; interdisciplinary education and training; and information dissemination. These core areas are aligned with the vision and mission of IHD:

The IHD Associate Director will bring compatible core values, a record of progressive managerial experience, and strategic leadership skills to the position. The person filling this position will be a positive self-starter who is motivated to pursue and develop opportunities for IHD. The Associate Director, in collaboration with the Executive Director, holds responsibilities that encompass: (i) comprehensive day-to-day management of IHD and its staff; (ii) acting as the primary contact with Human Resources in the creation, recruitment, hiring, and management of personnel; (iii) overseeing facility maintenance and renovations; (iv) monitoring budgets and providing ongoing input on fiscal management; (v) providing leadership in the areas of program development (new grants and contracts), program management, and program evaluation; (vi) serving on state and university advisory committees; and (vii) acting on behalf of the Executive Director at the local, state, and national levels.

The person hired into the position will be expected to further expand IHD’s external funding portfolio through grants and contracts, while supporting the maintenance of current state and national partnerships.

This is a hybrid position, allowing the incumbent to complete their work at the IHD office or remotely, with or without accommodations. The position is open to out-of-state candidates.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • 2-4 years of management experience
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience
  • Related combination of education, experience, and training
